Fargo Police Officer Receives Traffic Safety Award

For Immediate Release: Feb 20 2018

Officer Caleb Korb with the Fargo Police Department was selected to receive the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s (NDDOT) Beyond the Traffic Stop Award. This award was presented to him on February 14, 2018.

On September 5, 2017, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that fled the area of a garage burglary. No pursuit was initiated at the time but the officer’s continued effort and investigative skills resulted in the probable identity of the driver and a vehicle description. This information was shared with all Fargo officers. On September 6, Officer Korb located the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect tried to flee, but Officer Korb was able to position himself and the vehicle in a manner that prevented the suspect from fleeing. Three occupants were detained and a K9 was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted resulting in the seizure of a white power substance (drugs), three phones and property stolen from a previous burglary.

Officer Korb’s strong observation and investigative skills resulted in one occupant of the vehicle being arrested on an outstanding warrant. A second suspect was arrested for attempting to flee in a motor vehicle and ingestion of a controlled substance. The third suspect was arrested on two counts of burglary, two counts of possession of stolen property, aggravated reckless endangerment, felony fleeing and felony drug paraphernalia,” stated Sergeant Erickson, who nominated Officer Korb for this award.

We can move towards achieving the state’s Vision Zero goal – which is zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads when we have exceptional law enforcement like Officer Korb,” says Karin Mongeon, Safety Division Director, NDDOT. “His skills in enforcement help to keep North Dakota’s roads safe.”

The NDDOT receives nominations each year for the following awards: Traffic Safety Officer of the Year, Beyond the Traffic Stop, Drug Recognition Expert Officer of the Year, Child Passenger Safety Awards, Traffic Safety Honor Roll and a Traffic Safety Media Award.
