For Immediate Release: Mar 22 2018

Watford City – Watford City Police Department, McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol, United States Border Patrol and Northwest Narcotics Task Force partnered to create a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Task Force to focus on Highway 85 and Highway 23 in McKenzie County on Saturday, March 17 in an effort to eliminate impaired drivers from the roadway.

Eight DUI arrests were made during this task force. The other citations/arrests issued during the DUI Task Force included 15 speeding citations, seven drug-related arrests, seven uninsured motorist citations, five “other traffic citations,” five suspended/revoked license citations, four minor in consumption/possession, three open container citations, and one felony arrest.

Impaired driving is completely preventable and stopping it can prevent tragedies on North Dakota’s roads. Over the past five years in North Dakota, more than 300 people have died in alcohol-related crashes.
