2,393 citations issued during Click it or Ticket enforcement campaign

For Immediate Release: Jun 13 2018

Bismarck, ND – Law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the national Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign from May 21, 2018 through June 3, 2018 to help save lives on North Dakota roads.

A total of 2,393 citations were attributed to the added enforcement patrols. Of the total citations, 924 were citations for failure to wear a seat belt and 35 were child restraint citations. Tickets for speeding totaled 884. The traffic stops also resulted in 73 uninsured motorist violations, 19 citations for distracted driving, 13 drug arrests, two driving under the influence (DUI) citations and 306 other traffic citations.

Failure to use a seat belt is the most significant factor associated with motor vehicle crash injuries and deaths in North Dakota. Every seven days one unbelted vehicle occupant died last year in North Dakota.

Funding for additional traffic safety enforcement is provided by federal grant money distributed through the North Dakota Department of Transportation. High-visibility enforcement for traffic safety is one element of a collaborative effort to help meet the state’s goal of zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads.
